Clermont Aerodrome, Queensland, Australia

PROJECT SUMMARY

Construction engineering support to contractor for aircraft pavement strengthening project.

SCOPE OF WORKS
  • Concept pavement rehabilitation solution
  • Constructibility reviews and value engineering
  • Airfield pavement reviews and optimisation of solution
  • Construction cost estimates and programming

The project required an in-depth appreciation of the operational impacts of working on critical airfield infrastructure as well as detail design of airfield pavements.

PROJECT CHALLENGES AND OUTCOMES

Interfacing with existing pavements were challenging as aged pavements did not meet current standards and the provided design was based on basic site survey which did not address tie in issues. This project was also located in regional Queensland and required an appreciation for working on a remote site with limited access to quality material sources. The existing pavement removal often resulted in sub-grade strengthening works of expansive clay material.
