Airport design consultant and construction quality auditor for new Code E airport in regional Queensland.

SCOPE OF WORKS

Prepare pavement design options considering opportunities for using innovative pavement design to reduce overall project cost
Airfield layout and grading of Runway, Taxiways and aprons to meet ICAO and CASA design standards
Design asphalt and rigid pavements for B777, B747, A340, B737 and regional aircraft types
Construction supervision

PROJECT CHALLENGES AND OUTCOMES

Multiple options for pavement designs were evaluated including Roller Compacted Concrete, Asphalt and Concrete pavements all utilising local materials and practices. The site is located on particularly difficult subgrade conditions and an effective engineering management strategy was required. ACG undertook extensive value engineering resulting in significant savings to the client without undue exposure to project risks. All of the aggregate used on the project is quarried and crushed on site.
