PROJECT SUMMARY

ACG performed as the Head Contractor for this project, which aimed to enhance the safety and operational efficiency of Port Macquarie Airport through the construction of Stage 1 parallel taxiway to reduce runway occupancy times for Code A General Aviation (GA) aircraft and associated airspace congestion. This project also included essential renewal works to resurface existing general aviation taxiways and aprons to enhance access and facilitate the delivery of essential goods and services including aeromedical and other emergency services.
The works included;

  • Full Depth Pavement Construction of new Parallel Taxiway F3,Taxiway D and Engine Bay Run up for 5 Aircraft.
  • Asphalt Overlay to Taxiway B, Taxiway C1, C2, C3 and Taxiway F
  • Asphalt overlay to General Aviation Apron, including mill and replace 50mm of existing asphalt (and flank works associated).
  • Potholes repair using bituminous spray seal application and the application of a two-coat bituminous spray seal to Apron GA01.

PROJECT CHALLENGES AND OUTCOMES

Inclement weather – Port Macquarie experience significant rainfall during the construction period which caused the subgrade in areas to be considerably less than design. ACG – Construction was able to seek advice from ACG – Engineering PhD Pavement designers to propose a cost-effective corrective actions. With this advice and approval from the client ACG – Construction was able to ensure the project quality and budget were maintained.
